August 5th, 2013- Ellington Ridge Country Club, Ellington, Connecticut

The Ryan Lee Memorial Scholarship Committee is proud to announce Cole Berman of Rosemont, Pennsylvania as the recipient of the third Ryan Lee Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was awarded during the Northern Junior Championship at Ellington Ridge Country Club on Monday, August 5th. Cole will be attending Georgetown University in the Fall of 2014, where he will play Division I collegiate golf.

Twice captain of the Boy's Golf Team at The Haverford School in Pennsylvania, Berman helped lead the team to three consecutive league championships. He was the 2012 and 2013 Junior Player of the Year for the Golf Association of Philadelphia, and also qualified for the 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.

Off the golf course, Berman has retained a 4.0 grade point average, achieving honor roll each year he has been enrolled. He also volunteers his time at the First Tee of Philadelphia and the Mid-Atlantic Blind Golfers Association.

When asked what he learned through her junior golf experience that he will take with him into the future, he replied, "I have learned so much from the game of golf. Everything I have learned from it influences my everyday life. I respect my peers, elders and everyone I meet. I look someone right in the eye and shake their hand without thinking."

"Golf has also shaped my character since Day 1. Golf is a game of honesty and it truly has influenced the person I am off the golf course. I am so fortunate and grateful for being introduced to this game."

The Ryan Lee Memorial Scholarship was formed in honor of Ryan Lee, who passed away on April 26th, 2011 at the age of 19. A two-time past champion of the Stan Trojanowski Northern Junior and a Northern Junior Committee member, Ryan was also a member of the Long Island University Golf Team. As a Division I collegiate golfer, Ryan embodied the most important traits of a successful person, both on and off the golf course. Ryan was persistent and determined, and always eager to learn. He never got angry on or off the course, and always showed the utmost respect for the game of golf. He garnered invaluable life lessons from his time as a collegiate golfer, and there is no doubt Ryan could have done anything in this world. The scholarship is intended for those young men and women wishing to play collegiate golf who also portray the same honor and appreciation for the game of golf as Ryan.

Cole will receive a $1,500 scholarship, which will be used toward his educational expenses at Georgetown University this fall. Congratulations again to Cole Berman, the 2013 Ryan Lee Memorial Scholarship recipient, and a special thank you to all those who helped make this year's scholarship possible.
