The Northern Junior Championship is a nationally ranked junior golf tournament that was created in order to provide the highest level of competition for top junior players. The 36-hole stroke play event is contested over two days at Great River Golf Club in Milford, Connecticut and is open to amateur boys and girls under the age of 19 who have not entered their first year of college. Our goal is to provide the same first class championship experience and red-carpet treatment that the best national events around the country offer.

Format: All players will play 18-holes of stroke play on Tuesday, July 28th and Wednesday, July 29th at Great River Golf Club. Starting times will be from 7:00am to 1:00pm both days. There will be an awards ceremony and trophy presentation following the conclusion of play on Wednesday at approximately 6:15pm.

Divisions and Eligibility: There will be a Boys and Girls Championship Division, which is open to any male or female junior golfer who has not reached their 19th birthday on or before July 29th, 2020. All players must be an amateur golfer as defined by the USGA, and must not have entered their first year of college.

Tournament Entry Fee– Entry Fee includes complimentary practice round, two rounds of tournament play, players lunch both tournament days, tournament towel, player gifts and invitation to Players Dinner on Monday, July 27th.

AJGA Performance Based Entry: The 2019 Boys Champion will receive eight (8) AJGA Performance Stars, the top five (5) finishers in the Boys Championship will receive four (4) AJGA Performance Stars, and the top ten (10) finishers in the Boys Championship will receive one (1) AJGA Performance Star.

The 2019 Girls Champion will receive eight (8) AJGA Performance Stars, the top three (3) finishes in the Girls Championship will receive four (4) AJGA Performance Stars, and the top five (5) finishers in the Girls Championship will receive one (1) AJGA Performance Star.

Tournament Invitations:

The International Junior Masters: The 2020 Boys Champion & Runner Up will receive an automatic invitation to the International Junior Masters, being contested in June, 2021 at East Aurora Country Club in East Aurora, New York.

The Southern Junior: The 2020 Boys Champion will receive an automatic invitation to the 2021 Southern Junior, being contested in June, 2021 at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi.

The Barbasol Junior Championship: The 2020 Boys Champion & Runner-Up will receive an automatic invitation to the 2021 Barbasol Junior Championship, being contested in June, 2021 at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

The Women’s Western Junior Championship: The 2020 Girls Champion will receive an automatic invitation to the 2021 Women’s Western Junior Championship, being contested in June, 2021.

Hudson Junior Invitational: The 2020 Boys Champion & Runner-Up will receive an automatic invitation to the 2021 Hudson Junior Invitational, being contested in June, 2021 at Country Club of Hudson in Hudson, Ohio.

The North & South Junior Championship: The 2020 Boys Champion and 2020 Girls Champion will receive automatic invitations to the North and South Junior Championship, being contested in July, 2021 at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Northern Amateur: The 2020 Boys Champion will receive an automatic invitation to the 2021 Northern Amateur, played at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Indiana.

IMG Junior World Florida Challenge: The Top 3 finishers in both the Boys and Girls Championship will earn invitations to the 2020 IMG Junior World Championship – Florida Challenge.

Hope Valley Junior Invitational: The Top 5 finishers in both the Boys and Girls Championship will earn invitations to the 2021 Hope Valley Junior Invitational at Hope Valley Country Club in Durham, North Carolina.

Rankings
The 2020 Northern Junior Championship will be nationally ranked by both the Golfweek/Sagarin Ranking System and Junior Golf Scoreboard.

ELIGIBILITY: Entry is open to any male or female amateur golfer who has not reached their 19th birthday on or before July 29th, 2020. All players must be an amateur golfer as defined by the USGA, and must not have entered their first year of college.

Players may gain entry into the 2020 Northern Junior Championship by one of the following ways:

1) By Meeting Entry Criteria and Completing Tournament Application

The first 65 Boys and 28 Girls applying by Sunday, June 28th who meet a category will be accepted. Should spots be available after June 28th, selections will be made on a weekly basis to applicants meeting a criteria until the field is complete.

International players or players with an exceptional playing resume who do not meet the listed criteria may request an At-Large invitation by completing an application form.


2) By Earning Spot through Local Qualifier

Two separate 18-hole qualifying tournaments for the 2020 Northern Junior will be held at Connecticut National Golf Club on Monday, June 29th and Whitney Farms Golf Course on Thursday, July 16th. All applicants will be accepted on a strictly first-come, first-serve basis.
